Week 28: The third trimester (you’re on the home stretch)
In these final three months of your pregnancy, your baby will undergo another period of rapid growth. The third trimester is when your baby grows the most, both physically and mentally, acquiring most of its weight and gaining the most brain mass. Because so much growth happens in these last three months and because this is the time when many vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are physically transferred to your baby for accumulation, your main mission is to ensure adequate intake of calories and nutrients to provide the nourishment your baby needs.
Essential Nutrients this Week: Omega-3 fatty acids, Protein, Iron, Glycine, Choline, Zinc, Vitamin B12
Food of the Week: Salmon
This week salmon features as the food of the week because it's an energy dense whole food loaded with lots of micronutrients, a good amount of protein and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a healthy fatty acid which promotes brain development.
